Practitioners praise MusicTT for elevating local music industry
98% of participants who attended MusicTT’s recently concluded Publishing Camp highly commended the state agency for providing them with the knowledge needed to grow their own music careers.
Heather Baldwin-McDowell, Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Reprographic Rights Organization and IP Practitioner who also attended the Publishing Camp expressed, “Trinidad and Tobago is no longer just working for Trinidad and Tobago, it’s in the creative industries working for the world and that has to be our approach. What MusicTT is doing is an extremely good effort and is much needed. It’s a billion dollar industry and there is a lot of money to be made to generate foreign revenue for the country and I feel that something must be done for people to see the creative industries as the driver.”
This intense three-day workshop was attended by over 116 local music industry practitioners which was facilitated by renowned international music producers who have worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj including: Marcus Spence, Senior Vice President A&R, Mosley Music Group LLC; Sean Mulligan, Vice President, Film, TV & Media, Rock Steady Music; Vivian Barclay, General Manager, Warner Chappell Music Publishing, Jennifer Beavis, Director Publishing, Copyright & Royalty Administration, BMG Chrysalis and Ivan Berry, CEO of C2W Music Limited.
Participants were enlightened on several topics that significantly impact and influence the growth of their careers particularly the art of IP Exploitation, Licensing, the business of a music publisher and the importance of a Catalogue. This information will also be shared via MusicTT’s social media pages for the benefit of those stakeholders who were unable to attend.
